INTRO : Displaying Subscript & Highlight

A number of Excel options are essential in displaying spreadsheet results. Particularly useful in quantitative methods are those for displaying Greek characters, mathematical signs like equal to or less than, formulas, subscripts, gridlines and spreadsheet row and column numbers.
To display Greek symbols like  and  on a spreadsheet, type the letters l and m, highlight them, and change to the Symbol font.
An inequality such as
3X1 + 4X2 < 20
contains a less than or equal to sign and subscripts. To display < or > in Excel, type < or > and then use the underline icon to underline the character. To make a character a subscript, highlight it, select Format on the menu bar, click on Cells, select the Font tab, and then under Effects click on the Subscript box.
To display an equal to sign (=) as text instead of beginning a formula, type '= (the apostrophe plus equal sign keys). The apostrophe will not show, only the equal to sign does. Depressing just the equal key caused Excel to start a formula.
